Presbyterian Women - 2007 Annual Report

The Presbyterian women of the Nineveh Presbyterian Church have tried to fulfill this purpose in the following ways:
To nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study: Each of the ten monthly meetings, at which an average of nine women were in attendance, was opened with prayer and a devotional reading by a different volunteer each month. These devotions might include stories, poems, songs, scripture readings and prayer.
To support the mission of the Church worldwide, to work for justice and peace: On a yearly basis we participate in collecting the PW Birthday and the Thank Offering (including Health Ministries) to help support the various missions decided at the national level of the PW. We also collect the Least Coin offering (which supports women, justice and peace) at each meeting and includes a devotional reading and/or reading from the Mission Yearbook of Prayer. We monetarily supported the following missions: Samaritan's Purse Mosquito Net Project, as well as providing money to help ship medical equipment overseas, Harpursville Food Pantry, Orphan's Cry, Golden Key Prison Ministry, All Women's Help Center and Candle House Teen Challenge.
And to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church, (USA): The Nineveh PW has traditionally been a caring community of women. We hope to share that caring spirit with others by doing various hands-on mission work in addition to supporting missions monetarily. Some examples of this type of mission work during 2007 include: Sewing baby gowns and blankets to be sent overseas, packing school kits for the tornado victims in Kansas, collecting socks, underwear and sweatpants for use in the local schools, and providing hospital bags with essentials for someone that has an unexplained trip and/or stay in the hospital. We also collected items needed by a local mission, Candle House Teen Challenge in Owego, and decided to deliver these in person. A small group of us enjoyed a delicious lunch they had prepared for us and we then were given a tour of the home. We learned more about their mission and they performed some special music for us. It was a moving experience for all who attended.
We extend a big "thank you" to all of you who may have helped by donating various items for these projects throughout this past year. Some more of our outreach projects include: purchasing and distributing lilies and poinsettias at the holidays and delivering them to shut-ins and to those whom we would like to show our appreciation for various jobs performed within our church community. We have also been remembering our shut-ins with birthday cards as well.
This past year we hosted funeral dinners for a few families. We have implemented baby-sitting once again, with several of our youth volunteering to help with this during worship services. We held our Secret Sister Tea in February and after several years of having a great time with our "Secret Sisters", we have decided to take a break from this project for awhile.
Our group hosted a congregational family dinner this past fall. We feel the youth of our church are a vital part of our congregation and happily supported them this year by providing for their "break-fast" meal after the Thirty-hour Famine. We also supported them financially for the Triennium and Operation Christmas Child. Four women in our group are also involved in mentoring preparations for confirmation.
The PW provides the devotional booklets available for our congregation and we pray that you find them useful for your continued spiritual growth. Two fundraisers held this year were the Pancake Breakfast + Treasure Table in October and the Chicken + Biscuit Dinner in March. The Chicken + Biscuit Dinner proceeds are being used to finance the new church directory. This project is nearing completion and we look forward to providing all of you with a new directory very soon.
We are a small but active group of women who love the Lord and want to serve Him and do His will. We pray that we have fulfilled our Presbyterian Women's purpose and through our projects we have been witnesses to the promise of God's Kingdom.
The Nineveh Presbyterian Women meet the 1st Tuesday of the month and we extend an invitation to anyone who would like to join our group.
